The Remsgri are one of the four elven Kindoms of Faeran, living almost exclusively in the vast and towering rainforest of Riverseep.
The Remsgri have bronze skin and dark hair, often woven into tight braids and bound in a tail by both men and women. The damp and warm climate of the forest prevent the Remsgri from wearing clothing as elaborate or thick as their kin in other realms. They favor paneled skirts that fall to the knees, with fabrics and leathers binding and draping the upper portion of their torsos, though many do not wear shirts at all. The Remsgri most often tattoo their bodies with patterns signifying the forest and wind, or other symbols of nature. They place little emphasis on individual physical appearance, aiming to blend with their surroundings as completely as their tree-bound architecture.
Of all the specialties of the four elven Kindoms, the Remsgri may hold claim to the most momentous invention to date: electricity and magnetic levitation. Lamps to illuminate the dark understory and lifts to transport elves to the canopies of Riverseep laid the foundation for the levit paths and Rale lines and lighting throughout Faeran. The Remsgri primarily source their electricity from the raging rivers and waterfalls of their territory, though more recent developments have included light and thin solar panels placed above the trees’ canopies.
Naturally, timber is a major export of the Remsgri, along with ore and magnetic technology. Mostly hunter-gatherers and small-scale cultivators of forest flora, they import much of their grain and vegetables from the Fieri across the braided river. Popular foods include fruit, nuts, fish, game, and rice, as well as mushrooms and greens.
Religion is a quiet and meditative endeavor for the Remsgri. Silence, personal prayers, and connection with nature are the most important aspects to Remsgri practice and worship. They believe Riu presents himself in all areas of the natural world, and emphasize the presence and work of his spirits. They connect most strongly with ether spirits.
Though the Remsgri are known for their close-knit communities and peaceful nature, they are a powerful force to be reckoned with when their families and forest are threatened.
Remsgraen and Riverseep Forest
Remsgraen is the Great City of the Remsgri lands, residing near the southern border of Riverseep Forest. It is a city of suspended platforms, paths, bridges, and buildings, all woven through the architecture of the rainforest trees.
The forest floor of Riverseep is soft, largely made of organic matter and prone to flooding and shifting with the rains and seasons. Even transportation between towns and cities rises above the ground, with levit paths and Rale lines that seem to hover above the soggy undergrowth.
Daylight is a rarity below the heights of Riverseep’s trees, and the glowing lights of magnetic paths illuminate the eternal twilight in an eerie and beautiful network of curving lines. The Remsgri make ample use of metal and glass in their cities, the only Kindom among elves not well practiced in stonework due to its heavy nature.
Riverseep is home to a diverse array of flora and fauna, all of which is intimately known and well-documented by the Remsgri. As Remsgri dwell in the trees among birds, snakes, monkeys, and cats, they hold a stronger interest in and connection with animals and plants than most elves.
